5th grade Religion, Math, Social Studies, and Science

Goal:  Encourage students to become independent learners by providing opportunities for learning skills and demonstrating knowledge.

Religion- The values of our school are taught in all school subjects. The formal religion curriculum for fifth grade involves studying the seven Sacraments. 


  In lane 1:  Math-   In fifth grade, students will work with numbers to practice basic adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing skills.  Word problems and Algebra will be taught throughout the year.  Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimal numbers and fractions.  Geometry and measurement will also be taught. 

In lane 2:  Social Studies- In fifth grade, students will review the Country’s regions and learn various map skills.  They will study early American cultures, such as the Aztecs and different Native American groups.  The colonization of America by the English, French, and Spanish explores will be a topic of study.  Students will learn about life in the colonies and The French and Indian War America’s fight for independence during the Revolutionary War, and The Civil War will also be included in the curriculum.

In lane 3: Science- The fifth grade science curriculum involves hands-on activities and experiments to investigate the scientific method.  The class is divided into four units- life science, physical science, earth science, and the human body.

Swim practice every evening after school:  Students can be expected to have math homework everyday. 

Things to include in your swim bag: 
Home billing file folder, zipper pencil case, filler paper, erasable pens, pencils, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue, 4 one- subject notebooks
