Welcome to 4th Grade!  My name is Mrs. Kozusko and I am inviting you to “Step into Room 209”.  During this year, we will “step” toward the following subjects, for an exciting school year.

SUBJECTS

Religion

As we “step into” God’s Kingdom our religious instruction will center on the study of The Ten Commandments.  Beatitudes, daily prayer, and attending a weekly Liturgy are all part of strengthening our Catholic identity.

Reading

In reading, we will step into stories using a theme.  Each theme will be extended by using a monthly book report and hands on activities to enhance creative and critical thinking.  Weekly vocabulary words will be presented to assist comprehension skills in reading.

English

Grammar and identifying parts of speech are the primary focus in English.  “Teach Me Writing” is a creative writing program to encourage a positive approach to writing.

Spelling

Spelling instruction is presented ever Monday.  A variety of activities will be used to foster phonetic spelling patterns.  Application of spelling lists are demonstrated within the assigned dictation sentences that correlate with the weekly theme story.

Handwriting

Handwriting is practiced in all subject areas.  Practice of letter formation, neatness and accuracy is stressed in all subject across the curriculum.

Spanish

Your child will “step into” weekly Spanish class taught by Mrs. Martin.  Throughout each week vocabulary is practiced by using new words in the classroom conversations.

Please bring the following on our journey:  (3) three subject notebooks, wide ruled, Antibacterial Wipes, Glue, Scissors, Black Felt Pen, Filler Paper, wide ruled, Assignment Notebook, Sketch Pencil and Book, (2) Packs White 4X6 Lined Index Cards, (2) Boxes of Kleenex Tissues, Metric Ruler, Crayons, (3) folders with Pockets, Basic Calculator, Plastic Bin, Colored Pencils, Oil Pastels, and (2) No. two Pencils.
